Raanjhana: ..romance, drama, masala, colors, songs..what else is needed in a Bollywood movie? A movie exclusively for Indians. Despite being a typical romantic movie , the good point about the movie is that none of the characters are over exaggerated. The typical Indian middle class lover boy(around whom he whole story revolves), the typical Indian reserved yet playful girl, their short lived teen love are all very real in our society. The script is very well crafted with all songs and sequences put very well in place. But the most rewarding thing is its unpredictable story. Throughout the the movie u keep guessing what will come next now particularly in the end! And for this all the credit goes to the script/story writer. The movie attempts to give u all e.g dramatic scenes of boy chasing girl, disheartening feeling of separation of lovers, twists and U turns, smart one liner comedy , emotions etc. with the main focus on the boy's (Dhanush) striving for his love.
Now the bad parts...The main actor which is Dhanush has it all to portray the central character( i.e middle class boy next door) perfectly starting from his simplistic and ordinary Indian guy looks, his honest and straightforward expressions etc. but only not to be utilized properly by the director He has a tremendous uncomfortable Hindi accent in the film which of course can not be attributed to his south Indian background in the movie. In many scenes featuring Dhanush, it seemed the director was trying to give south Indian acting charm to to the general Bollywood audience. But unfortunately he was unable to do so and instead his (Dhanush)rhythm of dialogues were at many times not in sync with conversation depicted the scenes Sometimes the dialogues seemed to be short and incomplete and was not clear. The meanings could be grasped only after the next scene.A R Rhamans music did help a lot in adding value to the script.Despite all these little but not to ignore shortcomings, this one is still worth watching primarily for its unique story. Final rating: 3.5/5.
Acting Performance
Sonam kapoor: performance was ok but there is still much room for improvement.
Abhay Deol: did complete justice to the character.
Zeeshan: one the charming characters of the movie. Well done!
Swara Bhaskar : Average performance. Should have tried to act more naturally.
Despite these little(yet not to ignore) flaws Raanjhana is a good movie to watch for its unique story.
